Respect for tuna, por favor!
With the near extinction of the Bluefin Tuna (Thunnus thynnus) in the Atlantic and Mediterranean hot in the press, consider the Bonito del Norte, Spain's Albacore, or White Tuna (Thunnus alalunga) which MUST be rod-and-line caught in the Bay of Biscay to achieve its name, its quality and its price tag (going by our Torres Bonito del Norte it's at least £3.25 per 100g). Unlike its cousin the Bluefin and its neighbour the Cantabrian Anchovy, the species is thriving. And if all tuna was caught in a similar way, sure the price of tuna would go up, but at least we'd be saving a species, traditional fishing skills and methods, stress to the fish and the fishing environment, and seeing a vast improvement in the quality of the fish products we are sold. And what would we lose? Supermarket shelves of cheap, crap tinned tuna. No brainer, surely.
