Time for an oil change? CDT health benefits - the facts.
Experts believe that individuals can significantly improve aspects of their health by substituting butter, margarine and other oils with just 2 tablespoons of quality extra virgin olive oil every day. The University of Almeria in Spain spent two years monitoring the levels of health-beneficial properties in Castillo de Tabernas 0.1° from production to end-of-shelf life. You can read the full report in the pdf below; the main points are summarised here:

Compared to six other extra virgin olive oils of similar grade from around Europe, Castillo de Tabernas 0.1º retained the highest concentration of oleic acid at 80% of the total fat content. Oleic acid is a mono-unsaturated fat that can:

• lower LDL (bad) cholesterol without lowering HDL (good) cholesterol, important for maintaining bodily defences against heart disease.
• aid digestion and prevent peptic ulcers by inhibiting the production of gastric acid and stimulating enzymes in the liver and pancreas
• stimulate the absorption of calcium for healthy bone development

Castillo de Tabernas 0.1º is also packed with powerful natural antioxidants giving the regular consumer numerous health benefits.

• Vitamin E has strong anti-carcinogenic properties particularly for cardiovascular, lung, stomach, cervical and prostate functions. Can also prevent degenerative diseases such as dementia.
• Squalene has strong anti-carcinogenic properties particularly for the skin.
• Polyphenols have anti-inflammatory and anti-carcinogenic properties.
• Provitamin A helps to strengthen the immune system.
• Lutein can protect against macular degeneration, the main cause of blindness in the elderly.

Researchers believe that the record number of hours of desert sunshine stimulate the olives in Tabernas to develop extraordinary levels of antioxidants as natural defences against the harmful effects of the sun.
